Founding period:-Khagrachhari is a Bangladeshi hill district with a wide range of forms. Mountains, rivers, poems, jhiri, and plains make up this lovely location. Alutila Cave, Rishang Jharna, Devtar Pond, Horticulture Park, Taiduchhara Jharna, BDR Memorial, Mayabini Lake, Shantipur Forest Factory, and others are notable places of interest and historical sites in Khagrachhari district.
Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban created the Chittagong Hill Tracts District on June 20, 180. Karpas Mahal was the name of the district before it was established. Bandarban and Khagrachhari were founded in 1981 and 1983, respectively, from the Chittagong Hill Tracts district.
Naming:-
The river Khagrachhari is named after it. It was eventually cleared and settled due to the existence of Khagra forest on the river's banks, and it has been known as Khagrachhari ever since.

In August 1971, 18 Pak soldiers were killed in a battle between the freedom fighters and the Pak army at Mahamuni Para in Ramgarh upazila.

Mong Raja contributed to the war of liberation:-
During the liberation war, Mong Pru Sign, the seventh monarch of the Mong dynasty, fought against the Pakistani troops. He provided over thirty different types of weapons, vehicles, and food supplies for his kingdom's struggle against the freedom fighters.
During the war, Bangladeshi refugees who sought safety in India stayed at the palace.The king gave the refugees with food, medical care, and shelter. When the palace was invaded by Pakistani invaders, the king and his entire family fled to India.
From there, he received training and participated in the liberation fight in various parts of Bangladesh with the tank fleet.As a result, the Allies bestowed upon him the title of Honorary Colonel. He and his family returned to the palace at the end of the war. In 1984, King Mong Pru Sign passed away.

Matai Pukhiri is a natural lake at the top of a hill in Mahalchhari upazila's Nunchhari, 20 kilometers south of Khagrachhari's hill district.
