Rangamati Hill District is located between 220-27" and 230-44" north latitudes and 910-56" and 920-33" east longitudes, and is a land of natural beauty. Rangamati is bordered on the north by India's Tripura and Mizoram, on the south by Bangladesh's Bandarban, on the east by Mizoram, and on the west by Chittagong and Khagrachari.
In terms of area, this district is the largest in the country.The country's only city sans rickshaws, it's a tourist destination surrounded by lakes. This district is home to 14 ethnic groups, including Bengalis, including Chakma, Marma, Thanchangya, Tripura, Murang, Bom, Khumi, Kheyang, Chak, Pangkhoa, Lusai, Sujesautal, and Rakhine. Karpas Mahal was the name given to three hill regions in India: Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban.The main component of the Chittagong Hill Tracts district became Rangamati Hill District when Bandarban and Khagrachhari independent districts were constituted from the Chittagong Hill Tracts district in 1981 and Rangamati in 1983.
In the traditional revenue collection system, the Chakma Circle Chief is present in the Rangamati Hill District. The constitutional Chakma circle chief is the Chakma king.In addition to the existing special administrative structure in the Hill Tracts from the British period, since the signing of the Hill Tracts Agreement in 1997 under the leadership of Hon'ble Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during the previous Awami League government, a new dimension has been added to this structure.
The Chittagong Hill Tracts Regional Council, a task force for resettling refugees and internally displaced individuals returning to India, and a land commission to settle land disputes in mountainous areas have all been established in Rangamati.Aside from that, the Chittagong Hill Tracts Development Board, Hill District Council, and Bazar Fund for Hat-Bazar Management have all been established to carry out development projects in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. In the Rangamati Hill District, the Jatiya Sangsad has only one seat.
Different religious beliefs are held by minorities and non-tribals in the district. The majority of the tiny ethnic groups are Buddhists, with a few Hindus and Christians thrown in for good measure. The majority of Bengalis are Islamists.
